Five ships of the United States Navy have borne the name USS ''Vicksburg'', named in honor of the city Vicksburg, Mississippi, and/or the Civil War Battle of Vicksburg (1863). * The first was a steamship, purchased and commissioned by the Navy in 1863, and sold in 1865. * The second was a gunboat, commissioned in 1897 and renamed ''Alexander Hamilton'' in 1922 in the Coast Guard. Around 1935, she was renamed ''Beta'' and finally placed out of service in 1944. * The third , was a light cruiser, that was renamed USS Houston during construction.
